Primitive Mark Making

Grab some packaging and form cardboard shapes to make primitive textural marks using watercolor, gouache or medium of your choice. Create fun patterns in color or black and white.

You’ll need some packaging strips that you can bend and fold, some tape, any paper for stamping on and medium of your choice to begin.

Shape your cardboard strips into zig-zags, circles or triangles, keeping a smooth edge on one side. Use any tape to secure. Dip into or paint the edge with paint and stamp on your paper. The longer you keep it wet the more absorbent the stamping edge becomes.

Make an allover or varied pattern and then add some simple marks to finish your design.

Happy paper crafting!
