Make these shabby boho flowers with torn strips of scrap paper the centerpiece of your next paper project. Color and design variety makes the petals stand out while the centers are distinct bold or graphic. Since the flowers are proportional gradations you can make them any size. What you’ll need:
Torn paper strips, your choice (digitals, scrapbook paper, magazines, book pages)
Circle base (book pages or any scraps)
Glue or stapler
Circle punches and/or circle templates (5/8″ – 1″ – 1 1/2″ – 2″)
Decorative scissors or scissors optional
The video tutorial shows two ways to make these flowers. A few basic guidelines to remember are that the flowers are proportionally gradated circles and the petals stand out from the center circles because the designs of the papers are notedly different. Mix and match several papers for the best effect. The petals extend about a half an inch from the medium sized book page center of the flower and by using these proportions as a guide you can make these flowers any size.
You can reverse your designs by making your petals with book pages and your centers with designer paper as long as there is a distinction between each part of the flower. The centers can be as shown by using embossed and inked packaging in different tones or you can use patterned paper. You can fringe the petals with scissors or leave as strips. Curl your petals slightly as shown in the video to add dimension. You can spritz the back with ink spray or ink lightly if you desire a color backside for your petals. Add a solid color center dot with a standard paper punch.
You can use magazines, book pages, brochures, mixed media, gelli prints or any multi color images. You don’t have to avoid text; it adds to the design but you might want to avoid images with faces.
