DIY Watercolor Foam Prints

For a new looking print Instead of ink or acrylic foam printing this technique uses watercolor. You’ll just need a few supplies, foam board, foam sheets with or without adhesive, a ball point pen and some watercolors. Paper can be your choice, I’ve used lightweight/thin papers. I used a tiny drop of dishwashing liquid soap to help my watercolors spread evenly on the foam as is done with a gelli plate but it might work without. Simply draw your design on the foam with a ballpoint pen and then glue or adhere to your foam piece. A ball point pen gives you a smooth line, don’t use a sharp pen. You don’t need a lot of pressure. Use a brush to apply your watercolor to the block, flip and print. Your watercolor paint can’t be too dry or too wet for best results. If you are not confident about hand lettering you can easily make words with a letter stencil by reversing your stencil and tracing. Don’t forget to spell backwards too. You can trace simple stamp or stencil designs if you don’t want to draw things by hand. Make larger blocks if you want to try a scene or other design. You can also use more than one color for an ombre effect. Try printing on hand painted or colored papers too. Print blocks clean easily with a soapy water spray and a few quick wipes. You can also use watercolor markers. You can use watercolor with foam stamps too for an endless color supply. Happy paper crafting!
