Christmas Candy Paper Beads
Have a relaxing play for the holidays and make some of these fun Christmas candy paper beads. Easy to thread wooden and plastic beads and lace, ribbon and twine instead of wire or thread make assembly a breeze. Glitter glass and a variety of glitter glues make them appear sugary sweet to look like real candy. Make a bunch and add to a Christmas journal or to dangle from a gift tag.
materials
What you’ll need:
2″x8.5″ paper strips copy paper, tea, coffee dyed or white
Die cutting/embossing machine
Embossing folders (diagonal or your choice)
Ink (your choice)
Lace, ribbon, twine or yarn (your choice)
flat disc type beads
Decorating beads (your choice)
Glue
Hammer or mallet
Beading/Jewelry wire to make a needle for beading
Skewers or dowel
Begin with your 2″x8.5″ strips. You can use 2″x6″ strips but your beads will be slimmer. You can also use any width.
Place your strips about 2″-3″ into your embossing folder. Spray with a light mist of water to relax the fibers of your paper if necessary. Emboss and let dry.
Ink the debossed side of your paper with an ink color of your choice and allow to dry.
Curl, roll and glue your paper bead on a skewer or dowel as shown in the video tutorial. Apply glue sprinkle glitter glass to look like sugar if desired. You can seal your bead with any type sealant or you can apply glitter glue to both decorate and seal in one step. Allow to dry.
Tips for beading:
Gather your lace, ribbon or twine, double it and using a piece of bead wire as a needle thread the loop end through your beads as shown in the video tutorial. You can make a knot at the top if desired or use a bead that will not easily come off. Make a tie or knot at the bottom as well, cutting it shorter to look like a candy wrapper or leave as a long dangle..
These beads are simple enough for anyone to make without any special beading skills. Find any type of paper that you think looks like candy or just use any Christmas paper. Plastic kid beads make a fabulous addition as they already look like candy with different colors and finishes. You might even find some bead shapes that already look like gummies to string with your paper candy bead. Add these sweet treat paper beads to a Christmas journal or tag as a finishing touch.
