What you’ll need:
2″x8″ paper strips lightweight scrapbook paper or copy paper
Die cutting/embossing machine
Embossing folders (your choice)
Ink (your choice)
String, yarn, embroidery thread (your choice)
Spacer beads or flat beads
Beads for decorating (your choice)
Glue
Hammer or mallet
Beading/Jewelry wire to make a needle for beading
Skewers or dowel
Begin with your 2″x8″ strips. You can use 2″x6″ strips but your beads will be slimmer.
If using single sided scrapbook paper as shown place your strips about 2″-3″ into your embossing folder with your color side facing down. Spray with a light mist of water to relax the fibers of your paper. Emboss and let dry.
Ink the debossed side of your paper with an ink color of your choice and allow to dry.
Curl, roll and glue your paper bead on a skewer or dowel as shown in the video tutorial. Thread on another skewer and seal with clear glue or sealant of your choice. Allow to dry.
Tips for beading:
Since these are string beads it will be the knots that will be holding everything in place so allow for enough string or yarn to tie as many knots as you need. At least 12″ of string or yarn. The first tie will create your loop at the top of the bead. Your second tie will help keep your boho bead aligned and snug between the spacer beads as you work your way down the string. Thread your decorator beads as desired, make another knot at the bottom and place a dab of glue over the knot. Check to ensure both the top and bottom knot are large enough to prevent your bead from slipping through.
You can use a clip or bead spring to keep your beads from sliding off the string as you work.
These beads are simple enough for anyone to make without any special beading skills. The two toned embossing adds the rustic boho charm that can be monochromatic and soft or as dramatic as you desire by creating more contrast between the paper and the ink. Add your own special touch with different types of string and extra beads.
Happy paper crafting!
