How to Laminate Any Paper With Wax Paper, Gluestick And A Sizzix

Several examples of wax paper laminate are included in this photo, envelope embossed with fussy cut pansies glued onto a book page, fragile paper and small ephemera keepsake images for embellishments or small journaling cards.

Laminate With Wax Paper

Learn how to laminate any paper using wax paper, a gluestick and your Sizzix embossing machine. You can also use this technique to preserve fragile paper or news clippings. You can use almost any glue for this technique but using a gluestick shortens the dry time a lot. Glue that is almost 100% dry ensures success by avoiding slippage between the layers due to the pressure of the Sizzix machine.

What you’ll need:

Sizzix embossing/diecutting machine

wax paper

gluestick (any)

school glue (for last technique)

scissors or trimmer

images, paper, news clippings etc.

packaging or scrapbook paper

Follow the instructions in the video. Below are tips for the best results.

Tips:

  • After gluing to your backing, run just the images through the press first to make sure they are adhered well to the packaging or backing.
  • After gluing the wax paper layer give your image a press with a roller if you have one.
  • Make sure your glue is almost completely dry to avoid the layers slipping due to the pressure of the Sizzix machine. If you see wrinkles, bubbles or tearing of the paper image your glue is too wet. You want enough tack for adhesion but not enough to cause slippage.
  • You can run through the press again if you see any small wrinkles or bubbles. The pressure from the machine will make the wrinkles disappear.

Inspiration

You can sprinkle some gold leaf flakes on top your image to add interest.

You can add more than one layer to your image. Mix book pages with fussy cuts.

You can emboss an edge, corner or your entire piece to create an ice effect as shown here….

You can try crumpling your wax paper to get a subtle cracked glass effect.

Stazon ink is probably the only ink that might adhere to the wax paper without smearing.

This is a fabulous technique for protecting and preserving paper that is easy to achieve. It also gives images an antique luster. The no brush mark glue technique will make colors appear more vibrant while also protecting the image.

Happy paper crafting!
