materials
What you’ll need:
One 12 x 12″ scrapbook paper, medium to heavyweight.
Scissors or trimmer
Scoreboard or scoring tool
Glue
Embellishments and/or closures of your choice
Begin by cutting the paper into the following sizes.
12″ x 12″ cut in two pieces, leaving two 6″ x 6″ squares. On the 12″ x 6″ piece remove 1 1/2″ from one short side of your choice leaving a piece that is 10 1/2″ x 6″.
The pieces are now ready to score and finished.
Piece 1 6″ x 6″ – Double Pocket
Score at 3″ on one side. Make a 1/4 turn and score at 3″ to the score line only. Fold and burnish. Keep your spine to the left and cut a small slit on each side of the horizontal score line. Make a notch on each pocket, glue or sew on two sides to secure pockets.
Piece 2 6″ x 6″ – Mini Folder
Score at 3″. Turn and score at 1 1/4″. This will be your bottom fold so keep your paper design in mind. Fold and burnish. Note your inside scores and cut a small V shape toward the top edge of the score. Glue the outer edge of each folded pocket.
Piece 3 10.5″ x 6″ – Folio
Score at 3 1/2″. This larger side will be your cover. Turn 180º score at 2 5/8″. Turn a quarter and score at 1 1/4″. This will be your bottom fold so keep your paper design in mind. Fold and burnish. Note your inside scores and cut a small V shape toward the top edge of the score. Glue the outer edge of each outside folded pocket and glue two sides of the inner pocket.
You will have one final piece that is 1 1/2″ x 6″. You can use this to make a closure as shown in the video, make another small pocket or some other piece of ephemera. You may just choose to store it with your new pieces to use later.
You can embellish each piece now or save as bases for later.
You have now created a nice little set of ephemera to use in your junk journal. Some layout inspiration is shown in the video. Once you learn the basics to creating these you can expand your ideas and play around with different folding techniques to create a variety of pieces. Do a couple with coordinating papers to achieve instant variety.
Happy paper crafting!
