Real Rust In Minutes
Simple chemistry with common household items helps rust a variety of metal items in minutes. Age your embellishments almost instantly.
For this formula you will need:
- white vinegar
- hydrogen peroxide (I used common grade 3%)
- pinch of salt
- metal items (experiment with different metals)
Choose a variety of metal items like paper clips, safety pins, bulb pins, brads, metal book corners, old jewelry, chains etc.
Combine your liquid ingredients in a jar or other container add salt and submerse your items. Soak for 30-60 minutes or longer. Longer time spans might affect the integrity of your items so inspect regularly.
Once your items reach the desired color you can use your leftover liquid for dying paper or to make a real rust spray.
*Note, since the hydrogen peroxide might degrade I am not sure if this formula can be re-used for rusting but the color will remain.
Happy paper crafting!
